This is a Shinai bukuro which my very first creation.
My husband joined a local Kendo Dojo in early 2006.
I wanted to make something special for him.
However I had no idea about how to make Shinai bukuro,
(Sword Bag) even I am Japanese. I asked some Japanese lady for sewing pattern, then finally I found the traditional way to make one.
I bought water caltrop pattern with purple and white striped vintage Obi at Waraku in Marukai Torrance on the 2nd floor. I was so happy I found it. Unfortunately it was wrong to choose an Obi for the material for making a Shinai bukuro. Obi is made from three layers.and it was too thick to sew!! My first experience in making a Shinai bukuro was very hard, we say in Japanese, "Sugoku taihen deshita!"
